Cottage Dig

Our team went back to the cottage on the commonage today to clear our the briars and fuchsia from in and around the building. It was good to reveal the stonework and look for features, some rendering, blocked up windows and a hole where a possible beam was fitted.
We wanted to establish if where the fire was and intended to dig a sontage or test pit but the spade soon hit metal and careful digging revealed a fallen back plate on a hearth. We left things be to return with trowels, tapes and drawing boards to do some serious excavation work!
