The British Lion, known as The "Pig"

In Nantwich Road, Crewe. The nickname apparently relates to a poorly painted pub sign where the poor lion looked more like a pig.

I used to visit this pub regularly before Crewe Alex home games - the front door was firmly locked and the curtains were drawn, but regulars knew to walk round the back and enter from the alley behind. It was a firm "home fans" pub.

Sadly the pub changed hands, shut for a while, and now is a shadow of its traditional self. Dominos seems to have been replaced by Karaoke, and on matchdays it's more likely to be filled by away fans.

Nowadays, if having a quick pre-match beer, I go to the Brunswick (in the background on the other side of Nantwich Road) - nowhere near as good as the Pig used to be, but better than the Pig is today.
