saving the slugs

my daughter wants to save the slugs each time she sees one that could easily be trampled on or here on the bench, be sat on. Carefully she tries to get it loose and bring it to a safer place by using a leaf or a stick. 
Saving slugs along a  6 kilometer walk through fields and woods means slowing down.
