The event was for tortoises and not turtles or Terrapins

It transpired that the turtle was from Italy where the word tartaruga covers both tortoise AND turtle.

The entrance rule should have been more specific and excluded tartaruga acquatica.

Flippers flew furiously as the turtle was dragged away.

Meanwhile, a sad Mock Turtle slunk away, not daring to even enter the fray.
