Carol's ramblings

Dam .......

Daughters birthday today, so after present opening this morning, picnic made and packed, dogs in the car and off out for an afternoon trip. After a slight detour arrived at the dam - parking for the day 4€! - walked across the top of the dam and down the other side to the foot oath, before stopping for lunch. Quick photo opportunity, then back across the dam and an opportunity for the dogs to swim in the lake (son-in-law also paddled up to his knees!).

Back home, quick trip to the local shop for supplies to make a birthday cake (Germans don't have cake like GBB, lots of pastries) - our German is not good but the Google translation app is very useful around shops! I tried to get butter icing, but had to settle for glaze instead.

Out for a filling Indian meal at a local restaurant before returning home for cake and a hot drink. Great day, happy daughter :)

The dam at Möhnesee is a beautiful place, the infamous dam was built in 1912 and at that time the largest dam wall in the Sauerland. It is 650 metres long, and at its base 34 metres wide. On 17 May 1943, a "bouncing bomb" blasted a 70 metre wide and 20 metre high hole in the wall.
