A beautiful city with a traumatic history.

This is a poignant memorial to the Jewish people who died at this section of the River Danube in 1945. Shoes were a valuable commodity at the time so they were forced to remove them before being shot as they stood facing the river. A harrowing reminder of the evils of war.
