Gone

There was a fire at this mill last night and sadly it looks like it may have been arson. This place was practically my backyard since we moved here. The white building in the bottom right is where I lived and where my Mom just moved out of in January. Hopefully they will rebuild but not sure where all the local farmers will go now:(. I pasted a couple of clippings from the local news. The fire was around 2am and this was taken tonight at around 8pm and it is still smoldering.

Chief Heydon says the feed service is a crucial fabric of the community and the damage will be a blow to nearby farmers.

“It’s a feed service business. They take care of a lot of grain and deals with a lot of farmers in the area,” he said. “It’s very much a predominant piece of history in New Tecumseth and specifically Alliston. It’s been quite busy over the last few years when in 2004 we lost the Tottenham feed service.”

Posted August 19 - New Tecumseth firefighters, with mutual aid from Adjala Tosorontio, were called to 180 Albert Street - between King and Ontario - just after 2 am this morning for a fully involved fire at the Alliston Feed Mill. Pictured above, at approximately 5:30 am, crews were attacking the structure from above to deal with smoldering feed products inside the building. OPP are treating the fire as suspicious, and the Fire Marshal's Office has been called in for the investigation. More details when they become available. Alliston Feed Mill, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015 under the ownership of Peter and Sheila Dockerty, dates back to the early 1880s when the first grain elevator was built on site. In 1917 it was destroyed by fire, and rebuilt in 1918. In 1962 it became a feed mill, and has changed hands a couple of times since to its present ownership.
