Smiling through

Being soaked at events is the  emerging theme of my summer.

We went over to Bute to have breakfast with friends and it was sort of dry but by the time we got to the stadium where the Bute Highland Games is always held it was pouring with rain.

Although it eased off from time to time it was too wet to allow the dancing competitions to take place on the stages and they had to be moved to the school campus.   The other field events and the pipe band competition took place as planned and the local volunteers who run events such as this and fulfil all the roles - like announcing from the middle of the field - kept smiling through despite the downpours.

My extra photo is from one of the competitions - a heat for the boys races.  Traditional starting pistols are still used and you can see the smoke from the cartridge in this one.
