the ukimwi road

finished a really great book yesterday called 'the ukimwi road' by dervla murphy which was absolutely brilliant but i took it back to the library and forgot to blip it for the book club.

the author, aged 60, decided to take a bit of time out and rode her pushbike from kenya to zimbabwe, without telling her friends and family where she would be. she was planning to simply take some time out but travelling the ukimwi road (kiSwahili for AIDS) meant she came face to face with the devasting result of the HIV / AIDS pandemic.

today somebody sent me this book, the adventures of the black girl in her search for god by george bernard shaw . a first edition from 1932, awesome! a great little read.
