Vegetables

Gaston ambled down the road today, laden with bags for the refuse.  He usually goes the other way, up the road to the other bins (trash cans/dumpsters), but he always comes down the road when he wants to catch our attention for a quick word.  He didn't get it.  Although we spotted him going by we were both otherwise engaged indoors.  Half an hour later he arrived back with a gift panier of tomatoes, French beans (what else), courgettes and home made jam.  He just wanted a chin wag about local stuff and an invite, which he got, for aperos.  But his gift was lovely.  After an early lunch we fetched Janice and Peter to take them to the airport.  Peter seems to be quite famous these days (in Ireland, in support of such fame, we would urge; "go on ye boy ye!") and they have lots of interesting things to do in London and at the Edinburgh festival and in the Western Isles.   They emptied their vegetable cupboard for us; courgettes, potatoes, spring onions, lettuce and a whole lot more too.  SOoooo, when pondering what to cook tonight, using up the veggies was uppermost in my mind. In the end I did a sort of Paella with chicken, prawns, mussels and chorizo, all cooked up with lots and lots of vegetables and rice.  I think we got our '10 a day' today!
