Volucella pellucens

Another day spent prowling around the Devil's bit scabious flowers which this year like everything else are sadly devoid of insects to photograph!
I did eventually find this single specimen of Volucella pellucens, a rather pretty hoverfly, similar to Volucella inflata (blipped on 24th June) but much, much more common.
Later Iwent for a quick visit to Horsham's beautiful parish church only to find it closed 10 minutes before I arrived!!! oh well at least I know what I can do tomorrow. and on that note, my car is finally mended! - Yipee!!!
