Villa Eliana

This house was once the home to shipping magnate Achille Lauro and his wife. He gave his name as chairman to the ill fated cruise ship that was hijacked with tragic outcome in 1985. Born in Sorrento and a staunch socialist , he has a square named after him there. After he died his wife left to live in Rome and the villa went in to disrepair. Bought at auction recently and renovated it now hosts over 100 weddings a year. It overlooks the Bay of Naples with the sun setting behind Ischia and Capri and Vesuvius looking on.
