Liversage Hospital

I was working in Derby again today and for my lunchtime walk headed for London Road where I took this photo of the Liversage Hospital. The building consists of thirteen almshouses and was build in 1836 by the Liversage Trust, a charitable foundation dating from the early 16th century.

I am rather amused to read on the website of the Derbyshire Family History Society that:
'Only parishioners who had not received any other parish relief and were of the "best moral character" were allowed to live in the houses.'
