Fairy Pools

Our first day on Skye started with a trip to the Information Centre in Portree  to see Alan and get some advice on some things to see and do.  Armed with maps and some tablet, we set off.

First stop was Talisker Distillery, only to find that someone had arrived in a more stylish way than we had.  Two helicopters disappeared into the valley as we approached, and here they were sitting outside the distillery.  As we were doing the tour, we heard them take off again.

After the tour, we made our way towards Dunvegan, but stopped at the Fairy Pools for our only proper walk of the trip. The weather stayed fine - a bit too warm in parts - and the walk was pretty good.  There are lots of fantastic, colourful pictures of the Fairy Pools out there, so the real thing was a bit of an anti-climax, unfortunately.

The walk put our timings out a bit, so by the time we got to Dunvegan Castle, it was nearly 5pm.  The fairly shoddy customer service from the woman at the ticket counter, and the full price admission fee when the Castle closed in less than an hour put us off, so we didn't bother visiting even the gardens.

Our next stop was at Edinbane where we had booked dinner at the Inn.  Great, chatty service from the staff there, and the food was really good too.  Afterwards, we made our way back to the wigwam.  Tonight's low-tech fun was Battleships on some squared paper.
