The original Big Macs

The Bitterroot was once famous for its apples and during Marcus Daly's day (pre 1910) the apple industry here was larger and shipped more apples than the now famous Yakima Valley in Washington. Due to two successive early spring freezes, more than 2/3s of the trees were killed and the apple industry shrank considerably. It is now re-emerging; along with grapes, plums, apricots, pears and cherries. There are lots of orchards on the east slopes of the valley and the harvest is coming in now! Yum!
