Hornborgasjön

We visited the naturum at Hornborgasjön today. Hornborgasjön is a loch that was almost drained to extinction by the 1960s, but saved by determined people as it was a really important wetland for birds. It has since recovered much of its former size and is really famous for its gatherings of cranes in the early spring. Upwards of 25000 cranes have been recorded on a single day, dancing to get into pairs before going all over Norway and Sweden. Hornborgasjön is also home to many species of birds and a great place to visit; we will return in the spring sometime. The main blip is a Swallow hunting for insects and the extras, dragonflies mating, a Peacock, and a Large Tortoiseshell. The place was full of wildlife, and we also saw cranes.
