"As you begin to realize that every different type of music, everybody's individual music, has its own rhythm, life, language and heritage, you realize how life changes, and you learn how to be more open and adaptive to what is around us."  - Yo-Yo Ma

New academic year's opening dinner for faculty and staff this evening had a 'Turkish' theme with delicious gözleme and other quintessential Turkish dishes, and live music from these Ramadan Davulu Drummers with their mesmeric and perfect performance of the complex syncopated patterns of Turkish rhythms.  Enjoyed by everyone, Turks and non-Turks - an inspiring and hopeful start for the year ahead, a clean break perhaps from recent events.  A very high score on the Wow Factor-meter.
