Still With Us...

The Family Ruby-throated are still visiting the feeders and especially enjoying the plants with tubular flowers such as Cigar Plant and the  Florida native, Hamelin Patens (fire bush). They also enjoy BottleBrush which is currently in bloom. They have spent the spring and summer here in North Central Florida dining on the nectar of those favorite plants and raising their young. One of these days very soon they will begin their migration to Central America. I've heard that there is a small resident population of Ruby-throated Hummers here in Alachua County. But I've not seen them. Until they head south, they are welcome to all of the sugar water from our feeders that they can consume. It's always a sad day when I realize that they've departed.
