Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus)

The English visitors admired the bilberries and ate a lot as we walked in the forest but we never made time to go out and pick them.
I almost got picking today but it came on to rain.  Perhaps tomorrow...
Bilberry/Blueberry
I wrote about our forest "blueberries" Vaccinium myrtillus a while back and got into a discussion about the English name.  It turns out that they are called "blueberries" in several European languages, including Swedish (blåbär) (blaeberry in Scots) but in English they are bilberries.
The blueberries you buy in the shops in the UK are from an American plant (Vaccinium Cyanococcus).  If you bite into the commercial blueberry the flesh is light green, whereas the bilberries pictured here have flesh that is red/purple all the way through.
