A statue to the architect William Henry Playfair by Alexander Stoddart waits to be officially unveiled outside of the National Museum of Scotland.

In a career that spanned over four decades until his death in 1857, Playfair's career included some of the most prominent buildings in Edinburgh, including the Royal Academy, Surgeon's Hall, the City Observatory - and ultimately the National Gallery of Scotland building that opened on The Mound two years after his death.
