A bit of clearing up in the garden this morning before the rain set in, although the wheelbarrow is still down the garden complete with rubbish and is probably filling up with rain.

I notice one shrub in particular, which was nurtured from a seedling, is down to a single stem about a foot tall instead of the four feet it had grown to before a heavy-handed boot put paid to it.  I'm also a Clematis short along the bottom fence.  However, the new fence looks good, so it's a small price to pay.

We had a very good night out with friends last night and I had some lovely presents, including a voucher to "The Stables", Cleo Laine's music venue in Milton Keynes.  What a lucky girl I am.

This afternoon we've been over to look at the progress being made to our friends' house which has had to have the roof removed.  Because it's a listed building they are having to have new timbers put in alongside the old and a steel girder fitted across the width of the house before having it re-tiled.  Internally the plaster has come off most of the bedroom ceilings exposing the straw "insulation" and the dust and mess is indescribable.  They will probably have to have professional cleaners in when all the work is finished.  At the moment they are sleeping in the lounge but even that isn't ideal considering what mess has fallen down the chimney into both downstairs rooms.

This little bee was enjoying a drink this morning and quite happily allowed me to photograph it.
