Return to the Chattri

A friend of mine is currently off to work in India for a while and came to visit on his way. I thought it would be appropriate to take him on the long walk up to the Chattri (the memorial to Hindu and Sikh soldiers who died in Brighton's War Hospital during the First World War and who were cremated on this site on the Downs).which was the subject of my last linoprint. I made a few sketches for a possible new design later in the year. I was surprised to see the poppies growing in the field above the Chattri. Extra shows the contrasting view looking the other way.
