I agree with the eponymous adventuress entirely but wish she'd said "pictures and conversations" because pictures attract the eye and words complete the story.

The Alice books (of which I have several early editions) are among my favourites, not only as children's stories but as social commentary. Dodgson was a wordsmith par excellence, and the imaginative illustrations were simply Wonderful..
