The Battle for Park of Keir

Not quite the Battle of Bannockburn
more the Battle for Park of Keir.

All week this suit of armour has stood outside the hotel room in  Dunblane where the public inquiry is taking place.

But inside lawyers and planners joust with each other, digging out obscure facts which are tossed across the room like verbal bullets while the Reporter, a mild mannered ‘old school gentleman’ listens impassively only intervening when the cross examination of witnesses gets too robust.

At stake is the Greenbelt between two communities or loose it to Judy Murray’s ambition to leave a legacy, a grandiose gesture for future generations in memory of her sons, tennis stars Jamie and Andy. Now that is a worthy aim for any mother – but does it have to be on our Greenbelt?

(Oh yes there are some sweeteners like an adventure playground and unique six hole golf course with bigger holes to make it easier for beginners - I kid you not).

It’s a David and Goliath battle:
-       local community versus tennis Judy Murray,
-        Greenbelt versus a tennis centre and executive houses.

We are fighting and have fund raised nearly £7,000 to pay for an Advocate to present our case.

But Judy Murray and the developers have deep pockets. It’s millionaires versus ordinary folk.

All week we have listened to the developers put their case. Next week it will be our turn.
