Carlson's Drive-In

Nostalgic 1950's Era Drive-In in Michigan City Indiana. This popular eating place has been proudly maintained to be the same as when it opened in 1947. They brew their own root beer and brew their own cream soda every day. I bought a hot ham sandwich and a root beer for about four dollars.

Marty a former owner and now a Manager, proudly showed me the very efficient kitchen operation. As a measure of efficency, they once grosses $1,200 in an hour. That is a lot of hot dogs and root beer!

Carlson's has about 30 Car Hops on their staff. About 5 are high schoolers, 5 are college kids, and some of the others have been working there for over 10 years. Customers are happy and are generous with the tips, so it turns out to be a great job.
