A Collector of Oddities

Edinburgh Riding of the Marches

A wonderful afternoon attending the Edinburgh Riding of the Marches. I am pleased to say that the boundaries were clear, the citizens found to be in good heart and the City of Edinburgh flag returned to the Lord Provost unsullied and untarnished. Phew. An estimated 20, 000 people turned out to see the procession up the Royal Mile. Here some of the trades banner bearers can be seen with my husband in the background carrying the Candlemakers banner. I carried the Skinners banner. The order of banners was determined by King James VI but the trades and crafts incorporations go back to the 15th century. I wonder what they would all think of their trades still being represented hundreds of years into the future!
