What is not seen from between the skyscrapers...

While only about 13% of Thailand's GDP is made up of agriculture, 64% of the population is engaged in farming, primarily single crops of rice, cassava, corn, sugar cane etc. Of the 13 Thai girls I live with, all have family farms, and only one of those is the extended family's farm.

Farming is a giant part of Thai culture once you get out of downtown Bangkok. Even just a 20 minute drive past the last group of high rise buildings will bring you to agricultural communities. And yet, without the farms, all the food stalls, restaurants, and street vendors would have no food to sell. So I guess in its extended form, farming runs between and even through the downtown skyscrapers too.

Backblip - my family's "farm" in America...no really, just some vegetable plants (no offense, Mom!)
