Keep together girls

We went for a walk today along the Basingstoke Canal.  The canal ran from Basingstoke to London and connected rural Hampshire to the waterways of London and hence enabled  boats to travel from the docks in East London to Basingstoke.

The success of trains *that run parallel to it was its demise.

It has since been restored except for the last few miles.  The final part of the canal is Greywell Tunnel but is now home to a protected bat colony so it cannot be restored.

The walk took us past a pond that was full of geese.  These four took off with lots of honking.

The additional photo is a butterfly that I don't recognise. Can someone tell me?
