Loch Broom from Corrieshalloch Gorge

We woke up to views of the cruise ship Albatros anchored in Loch Broom this morning. After a quick trawl on the internet, she's sailing off to Belfast this evening, on her trip around much of the UK over 13 days.

The weather forecast was for drizzle, then a front coming in later to give serious wind and rain! So we decided to revisit a couple of local beauty spots in the morning and settle down for a relaxed afternoon in the cottage.

We first went to the Corrieshalloch Gorge Nature Reserve. There's a short walk around the reserve with a walk across the gorge via a suspension bridge to a cantilevered viewing platform above it. The extras are photos taken from both the bridge and viewing platform. The Falls of Measach drop 45 metres! The bridge only spans 25 metres, as the gorge is quite narrow.

We then had a short walk in the Lael Forest Garden not far from the gorge. In the 19th century tree hunters collected seeds from around the world and planted them in the arboreta here.

Before we ate out this evening, we had a chance to visit the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust boat The Silurian. It's the North West Highland's Cetacean Week while we're in Ullapool, and the boat is anchored here for a few days, and is open to the public. They're also doing a series of talks while they're here.

While waiting to go on board, the local seal kept popping its head up to see what we were doing.

The last extra is the cruise ship leaving Loch Broom this evening.
