Day 258/16. Sometimes you just get lucky....

Three times this summer I have taken my camera to allegedly the 'best' location to photograph Dragonflies locally to me. Three times I was dissapointed.
Today, in a mid afternoon coffee break, there in my back garden was a Southern Hawker doing a reconnaisance mission around our pond.
Those of you unfamiliar with these, they are huge insects, this one's body was perhaps 8cm long. Stunning little creatures that sound like small helicopters.. Hawkers are the largest and fastest flying dragonflies; they catch their insect-prey mid-air and can hover or fly backwards.
Sometimes you just get lucky....
