Day 3 of the NorthCoast 500

Castletown to Durness via Melvich, Loch Eriboll and Bay of Ceannabeinne

After such an early night we were up early and after breakfast we had a short drive to Melvich, parked up and walked through the dunes to this beautiful beach where is was only us and another lady walking on the beach.  Breagha as usual did her looking for the perfect stone, ducking into the waves and then a frantic dig and run around.  Good timing, as we got back to the van it started raining, which was ok as we had to cover quite a few miles to get to Durness today.

This was the A838, yes an A road that is little more than a single track with passing places.  There is no rush, you can't rush.  There may be sheep, a whole big flock of them round the next corner.  Which we met a few times.... nothing for it to wait till the shepherd got them to where he wanted with his dogs.  I did see one poor sheep lying dead at the side of the road with its legs up in the air, dead... I think hit by a motor. 

A good few miles along the road we came to Loch Eriboll.  Had to stop for a picture of the Highland Coos lying and standing at the Passing Place (extras).

Next stop was for a proper walk at Ceannabeinne Bay.  Rain had stopped but first it was cuppa time in the parking place overlooking the bay, watching the coming and goings of the people round about us - always entertaining!

Good walk on this beach then back for the drive to Durness.  We stopped at Sango Sands site - great spot on top of a hill overlooking the bay.  Site was nice, it was also busier than the others prob cos it is the only one in Durness.  Shower block was a bit YUK, glad we have our own shower and loo.  Again, tired.  So early to bed.  A big gale had got up and  the van was rocking from side to side.
