Pleasant 3 hour break!
Lady Anne Clifford is amazing - a strong and intelligent 17th century woman who used her inheritance wisely and often philanthropically. Here are some almshouses she had built in Appleby that are still in the same use today.
She was a very literate woman and if you get a chance to read her diaries it's well worth it!
