The War Memorial, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire.

Continuing yesterday's WW1 theme, this memorial in Matlock Bath is unusual for a number of reasons. For one thing, the figures are sculpted in marble rather than the more usual granite. Marble doesn't "weather" the way other types of stone do which is why the memorial looks s fresh today as it did when it was erected in 1920.

And secondly, an Italian sculptor was commissioned and he has incorporated some details in the uniforms which are more suited to Italian servicemen than their British counterparts.
