Boy looks nervous/afraid/guilty in old school pic

For reasons I can no longer remember, a photographer called Bill Denton came to St Francis Primary School one day and took pictures of pupils using the library. No prizes for guessing which one I am of these five! What intrigues me is the boy on the right, and his nervous/afraid/guilty expression. What's up with that?
