Late early?

We had a nice long walk all round Silverdale today and returning from The Cove through Eaves Wood (National Trust). On a sunny bank in the wood I found a couple of plants of violets in flower. I know Common Dog Violet can have a second flowering in the autumn, usually with the flower failing to develop fully. However, these flowers were fully formed and looked more like Early (or Wood) Dog Violet, Viola reichenbachiana, or possibly the hybrid between the two species. I'm not sure whether they are late or early, but they are certainly enjoying this lovely weather.
