San Mao

This little boy is the best known comic strip character in China, created in 1935 by Zhang Leping and used in films, cartoons, TV series and more in China. This statue was presented to the Brussels Comic Strip Museum by the Chinese Embassy in 2015.

I never knew they had B.D.s in China and when I first saw him thought he looked a typical old-fashioned Belgian schoolboy.

Really enjoyed the museum - a light spacious Art Nouveau building close to the apartment I'm staying in.

The extra is of a better known figure - Lucky Luke - and shows something of the style of the building.

I learned a lot and have a lot more respect for this art now.
