Thousand Springs, ID

We left Burns, OR, this morning and traveled to the Bruneau Dunes State Park in Mountain Home, ID. We enjoyed hiking through the park and around a lake, photographing white Pelicans, and marveling at the size of the dunes. They cover six acres and are the largest single structured sand dune in North America. Along the way, we passed through Parma, ID, and watched what appeared to be their onion harvesting day. Wow, many massive fields and large trucks overflowing with onions were in every part of town. Our next stop was at a park overlooking the Snake River between Buhl and Hagerman, ID. There we saw dozens of waterfalls like the ones in my picture. The area is called Thousand Springs. Scientists believe the springs originate about 150 miles to the northeast where two rivers vanish into lava beds that cover much of the region. There is a very interesting and informative story about the springs on line by "The Nature Conservatory." Fascinating science!
