Morning Walk

I haven't been on this morning walk for a long time as I haven't had to go to St Andrew's House.

However today I did and enjoyed the view down Regent Terrace and past the American Consulate, which is the oldest established diplomatic presence in the city.

The first Consul  was appointed in 1798 ,  one of the earliest acts in foreign representation undertaken by the newly independent United States of America.

The first premises were at Leith Links but it settled in its present situation in 1951.   In  1990 - after 40 men had held the post - the first woman was appointed and all the Consuls General since then have been women.
