A farm no more

Two centuries ago this building was part of a farm. Some books say it was a farmhouse, others that it was a forge. By the size of the roof I would imagine it was a farmhouse.
It is right in the middle of our busy little High Street. Close inspection shows how at one stage shop fronts were built out, and then later the little wooded shop that is now a bakery. We have lived here long enough to witness change of use of many of the shops. At one time the bakery was a butcher's shop, but the village couldn't sustain three butchers, and now we have just two. It is a prosperous little High Street, always busy, and we seldom have need to travel to supermarkets.
