News Crash

Our neighbor's tree fell on our house during an afternoon storm, damaging gutters, chimney, and siding, as well as our electric and cable boxes. In the past twenty-four hours, we've had to begin the insurance claim process, get the tree removed, and have electricity, cable television and internet reconnected.

My partner Kathy gained her 15 minutes of fame, when two local news stations filmed the damage and interviewed her. Our family and friends said one network played her interview during the 5, 6 and 11 o'clock broadcasts. It must have been a pitiful news day, if a fallen tree got that much coverage.

Wonder what's happening elsewhere in the world?

"The one function TV news performs very well is that when there is no news we give it to you with the same emphasis as if there were."
~ David Brinkley, US national television news anchor
