Pyramide du Louvre

The Louvre Pyramid design by IM Pei was one of the most controversial of President Mitterrands´ Grand Projets in Paris.

Entitled Le Grand Louvre, the design completed in 1981 was for a glazed pyramid located in the centre of this courtyard to help improve access and circulation into these famous Parisian galleries.

The 20.6m high glass structure forms a wonderful contrast with the historic facades of the Louvre and has become a landmark in its own right.
