Lisbon Day #2

Praca de Commercio

Waiting for a tram to take us to the township of Belem, we had 20 minutes in the baking sun to take in the square, once the  administrative hub of the city.

The tram, when it arrived, was packed and got further packed as we made a bumpy trip the 4 miles to Belem. At one point a senior local got stuck in the doors whilst trying to force her way into the crush only to find herself left behind after the doors closed on her head!

At Belem we visited the monument of the discoveries, unfortunately covered in scaffolding. We had a jolly game of 'Where's Vasco'.

We also visited the superb Monastry of St. Jeronimo. The cloisters ornamented with all the trappings of the ancient discoveries.
