MonoMonday........ Cultural

This is a head of a man, one of several carved into the exterior stone work of the local parish church St Johns. The church is Grade11 listed, originally built between 1250-1270, with much renovation done over the years. I'm not sure exactly why these heads were carved, they are not strictly gargoyles, but it was obviously a cultural belief and custom of the middle ages. Thanks to Ingeborg for some great themes this month :)
Many thanks for your responses to yesterday's blip:)
