A mystery

This stone memorial is tucked away on its own in a very small clearing among trees next to a country lane just outside shoreham village in Kent. On one face it is inscribed with a biblical passage and on the other (extra) the inscription "Pray for the soul of E.J.G.B." and on another "and of A.J.B."

A bit of research tells me that the Stone was erected in 1928 by a Miss Maud Berkeley in memory of her late father Dr EJG Berkeley. Maud ran a Catholic mission chapel. She also erected a 15feet high teak crucifix and a life size statue of Jesus. Following storm damage and vandalism and a spell in storage, the crucifix and statue were relocated to the Carmelite Monastry at Quidenham in Norfolk, where they remain to this day.
Mystery mow solved.

Well..... you never know what you may come across while out walking.
