Shaw House.

This is Shaw House, not far from Newbury. It was built in 1581 and one of its claims to fame is that Queen Elizabeth the first once stayed there. I remember it from the 1970's when it was a school and it used to host a three day music workshop which pupils from lots of Berkshire schools attended. It was great fun, we met lots of other people and spent the whole time learning and playing various pieces which were then played to an audience on the evening of the last day. It was quite an adventure to go as we cycled to a teachers house, where we left our bikes, then got a bus into Reading, where we then boarded another bus from the large bus station that used to exist there. I somehow doubt all that would be allowed these days! Shaw house is now the place where you have to go to register Births, Marriages and Deaths, hence the reason for our visit today.
