Dutch tales

Marten & Opjen

I was at the Rijksmuseum in Amterdam at 9.30 am this morning. Half an hour later than planned. Still early, but apparently not early enough. I went immediately to these paintings and managed some shots of them when there were not many people around yet. But I was in haste, so I didn't manage a good shot. This one will have to do.

These paintings were made by Rembrandt in 1634, the only life-size,  full length wedding portraits he ever made. Earlier this year the Netherlands and France joined in acquiring the portraits with the agreement that they would always be on display together. They will be on view alternately in France and in the Netherlands. France had the first turn, this is now the last week they're on display here, after which they are going into restoration.

Interesting pieces.
