Sunrise and hard work

Today's wake up time was 4am so we could take a ride up to a lookout point and watch the sun rise above the peaks. It was a thing of beauty again, to watch the landscape unfold and the peaks play hide-and-seek among the clouds (see extra).

On the way down, around 6:30am, we came across a number of women carrying supplies on their backs down to the town's markets. Most of them were middle-aged or elderly and easily carried what appeared to be their body weight in wares. I'm told that's the easiest of the farming jobs... Our driver stopped to buy some stuff from that elderly woman: she came up to the window, he reached out and picked what he wanted and paid her, and off she went -- 11 km down that steep hill and up again at the end of the day...

We're back in Kathmandu for a night (street scene as an extra); off to Bhutan tomorrow.
