Another Sign of the Times

Today the first of the fields across the valley was ploughed.

For a few weeks the soil over there will be a rich dark purplish colour, until the winter wheat germinates and growth begins again.

Some of the trees are beginning to show tints of red and gold. There's sprinkling of fallen birch leaves on the grass, and new kinds of fungi pop up and disappear in the space of a day.

The wood stores are full and the sweep is coming on Friday. Definitely,  Autumn.
