Whimbrel(Numerous phaeopus)

Very similar bird to the Curlew, but the Whimbrel is smaller, more compact and darker plumaged. Its beak is also shorter, thicker and more curved than its cousin. There were three birds(the other bird, always kept a good distance away from this couple) keeping their beady eyes on me, in between probing the muddy shoreline of the river. They live on much the same diet as the Curlew, but are obviously not able to probe as deep as the Curlew. Whereas the bigger bird has a lovely song, the Whimbrel has more of a stuttering, rippling trill.
