Sgwarnog: In the Field

Basking

It's been good to see the Small Tortoiseshells back in circulation over the past week or so. This isn't the first I've blipped this year, but it's difficult to resist them when they let me get close enough for a decent picture. The new brood seem very flighty, but this one looks dishevelled enough to be an old-timer.

Elsewhere on the moor, I saw my first Small Copper of the year, along with the usual selection of Whites, Skippers, Meadow Browns, Small Heaths and Ringlets. I'm off down south for a week on Monday, so we'll see if I turn up anything more exotic down there.
